The threat of rain was once again in the forecast. The morning was just expected to be cloudy, but thunderstorms were supposed to roll in around 3pm. It was actually a little later, and only a brief shower at first. Then, at 7:30, the big storm began to make itself obvious.
It's always a risk, especially if you plan on visiting early in the season, but the majority of the day was beautiful, and the crowds were thin because of the forecast. My longest wait (for Top Thrill Dragster) was only 30 minutes. Even with calling it a day at 7:30, I managed to get in 21 front seat coaster rides plus a couple of rides on Woodstock. I also had time to ride the train around the park. By the way, in case you didn't know, the train has actually treated more part attendees to rides over the years than any other attraction at Cedar Point!
I also had time to check out Lusty Lil's Revue, which was quite good. I don't often have time to check out the shows because of my focus on the coasters, but there are other things to do and see here at Cedar Point. The museum has also seen a couple of additions since the last time I stopped in, and is well worth visiting, especially on a hot day.
Nothing relly new this year except the trains on Mantis, which is now called Rougarou. Gone is the stand-up experience, in favor of a floorless coaster. The experience is only slightly improved as many of the complaints were about how rough Mantis was, especially near the end of the ride. That roughness is still there, just toned down a little.
Perhaps a new coaster will be here next year as the park could really use a new, high profile attraction. And I'm still waiting for a western-themed, laser tag dark ride in the area near the barnyard. Raptor badly needs a new paint job as well.
Kudos to the ride-ops of Corkscrew and Magnum again this year as well as the ride-ops of Iron Dragon. It's always a pleasure to watch people who love to work here and want to share that enthusiasm with the rest of us.
